Shail Silver is an entrepreneur and investor in software, consumer finance, and home services. ... More
He is co-founder and executive chair of SpeechLP, an AI speech therapy tool that gives kids games to practice with and gives parents and speech-language pathologists reports on each child’s progress. He also co-founded ParagraphAI, which put the first GPT-3 writing assistant on the iOS App Store in August 2022 (Voicebot, 2022) and reports more than one million users; Phone Stack, an AI contact center; and EA AI, an AI executive assistant.
Silver started his first company, ListJet, while an undergraduate at the University of Western Ontario. ListJet was an online marketplace for charter flights, much like Expedia. It passed $1 million in annual revenue and flew celebrities, athletes, and political and business leaders (Aviation Week, 2009). He then worked in investment banking at GMP Securities and on the NYMEX trading floor at Sempra Energy.
He spent almost twenty years in Ontario’s consumer finance and home services industries. He held senior roles at Universal Energy Group and at National Home Services, a division of Just Energy Group. He founded Toronto Developers Ltd., which financed equipment for Ontario home builders, and built Smart Home Works, which sold its $29.2 million consumer finance portfolio to Dealnet Capital in 2017 (Yahoo Finance, 2017). In 2020 he took part in a shareholder campaign at Dealnet, then listed on the TSX Venture Exchange as DLS (Newsfile, 2020). Dealnet’s value tripled during the campaign (GlobeNewswire, 2020), and in November 2020 Simply Group bought the company in a deal valued at more than $243 million (Newswire, 2020).
Silver holds a degree from the University of Western Ontario and an IFR pilot licence. He is a founding donor of Kids Help Phone’s Crisis Text Line (Kids Help Phone, 2019) and served on its Innovation Committee.
